Starlink 12V Adapter: Mini vs Gen 3 and How to Choose the Right One

by Paul Jones 02 Jun 2026

Choosing the right Starlink 12V adapter is more important than it might seem. The Starlink Mini and the Starlink Gen 3 operate at completely different voltages and their 12V adapters are not interchangeable. Fitting the wrong unit to your dish will not work and risks damaging your equipment. This guide covers every Starlink 12V adapter option available at Campalot, the key differences between Mini and Gen 3, and how to choose the right configuration for your setup.

Browse our full range of Starlink 12V adapters at Campalot - all options clearly labelled by dish compatibility, input type and output configuration.

Step One: Identify Your Starlink Model

Before anything else, confirm which Starlink dish you own. This is the single most important step in choosing a Starlink 12V adapter.

  • Starlink Mini: a compact, lightweight dish approximately 30cm wide designed for portability and lower power consumption. Check the label on the dish itself or the Starlink app under Equipment.
  • Starlink Gen 3: the standard residential and travel dish, larger than the Mini with a square or rectangular profile. Also identifiable via the Starlink app or the label on the equipment.

If you are still unsure after checking, contact us before ordering. Getting this wrong means buying the wrong adapter and the voltage mismatch means it will not work on your dish.

Why Mini and Gen 3 Adapters Are Not Interchangeable

The Starlink Mini dish operates at 30V DC internally. A Starlink 12V adapter for the Mini steps your 12V battery input up to 30V output to match this requirement.

The Starlink Gen 3 dish operates at 56V DC internally. A Starlink 12V adapter for the Gen 3 steps your 12V battery input up to 56V output.

A Mini adapter outputting 30V connected to a Gen 3 dish requiring 56V will not power the dish. A Gen 3 adapter outputting 56V connected to a Mini dish expecting 30V risks damaging the dish electronics. There is no workaround and no grey area here.

Starlink Mini 12V Adapter Options

The Mini range offers the most configuration flexibility, with choices across input connection type, output cable type and the option to add a wireless remote.

Input Options: Anderson or Cigarette

  • Anderson plug input: connects to your 12V system via a 50A Anderson plug. The preferred choice for caravan and 4WD setups with Anderson-based battery systems. More secure, higher current capacity and better suited to permanent installations.
  • Cigarette lighter plug input: connects to any standard 12V cigarette socket. Simple plug-and-play installation with no wiring required. Best for vehicle-based setups or portable use between different vehicles.

Output Options: 2m Male or 30cm Female

  • 2m male output cable: a 2-metre cable runs from the Starlink 12V adapter to the Starlink Mini power input port. The standard configuration, suits most installations where the adapter sits within 2 metres of the dish connection.
  • 30cm female output cable: a short female connector allows the existing Starlink Mini cable to plug directly into the adapter. This suits installations where the Starlink power cable is already routed and you want to terminate it cleanly at the converter without adding another cable run. Particularly useful for tidier permanent installs inside a van or canopy.

With or Without Wireless Remote

The Starlink Mini 12V adapter is available with or without an integrated wireless remote receiver. The remote option includes the receiver module built into the adapter unit and two key fob remotes, allowing you to switch the Starlink dish on and off from anywhere within range without physically reaching the adapter.

This is particularly useful when the adapter is installed in a storage bay, battery box or behind a panel where it is not easily accessible at camp. One press of the key fob from inside the van or from the camp table switches the system on or off.

If you already have a Starlink 12V adapter without remote and want to add this capability, the standalone 12V wireless remote control switch can be added to any 12V circuit including an existing Starlink power supply.

Starlink Gen 3 12V Adapter Options

The Gen 3 adapter range is available with Anderson or cigarette plug input. Output is 2m male cable in both cases, and output voltage is 56V DC as required by the Gen 3 dish.

  • Anderson Plug Input: Connects via 50A Anderson plug to your 12V system. Includes a 2m DC output cable and inline fuse. The clean, permanent installation choice for Gen 3 setups with Anderson-based electrical systems.
  • Cigarette Lighter Plug Input: Connects to a standard 12V cigarette socket. Includes a 2m DC output cable. The simple plug-and-play option for Gen 3 setups without Anderson connections or for portable use.
  • Adding Remote Control to a Gen 3 Setup: The Starlink Gen 3 12V power supply is available with or without wireless remote control. The standard unit without remote is $129. The remote variant comes with the receiver module integrated and two key fobs included, priced at $189. Simply choose the remote option when selecting your Gen 3 power supply at Campalot. Alternatively, if you already have a standard Gen 3 unit and want to add remote capability later, the standalone 12V wireless remote control switch at $59 installs inline in the circuit and delivers the same key fob on/off switching.

What If You Want to Add a Remote Later?

If you already have a Starlink 12V adapter without a remote and want to add wireless on/off control, the standalone 12V wireless remote control switch installs inline in any 12V circuit. It works with any Starlink 12V adapter, any 12V power supply and any other 12V device you want to control remotely. At $59 it is a practical and affordable addition to an existing setup.

The Short Version

Mini needs a 30V output adapter. Gen 3 needs a 56V output adapter. They are not interchangeable. Confirm your dish model first, then choose your input type based on your vehicle or caravan electrical system. Add a remote if your adapter will be mounted somewhere difficult to reach at camp.

All options are clearly listed on the Campalot product pages. If you are still unsure after reading this, get in touch and we will confirm the right adapter for your exact setup.
