Why a 12V Power Supply Is the Right Way to Run Starlink Off-Grid
Every Starlink dish ships with a power brick designed for 240V mains power. Running that through an inverter off-grid works but is inefficient: you convert 12V up to 240V, then back down to the dish operating voltage, losing energy at each step and carrying the inverter standby draw on top.
A dedicated Starlink 12V kit converts your battery voltage directly to the voltage the dish needs in a single step. Lower power draw, no inverter required, no standby waste. For any caravan or 4WD running on battery and solar, this is the correct approach.
One Important Compatibility Note
Starlink Mini and Starlink Gen 3 operate at different internal voltages and require different power supplies. Mini needs a 12V to 30V converter. Gen 3 needs a 12V to 56V converter. The two are not interchangeable. Confirm which Starlink model you own before ordering. If you are unsure, check the label on your dish or contact us.
The Starlink Mini 12V Kit Options
The Mini range offers the most flexibility with choices across input type, output configuration and remote control.
Anderson Plug Input

Connects to your 12V system via a standard 50A Anderson plug. The preferred choice for caravan and 4WD setups where Anderson connections are already part of the battery system. More secure than cigarette connections and suited to permanent installations.
Cigarette Lighter Plug Input

Connects to any standard 12V cigarette socket. Simple plug-and-play setup with no additional wiring. Best for vehicle-based setups, portable use between different vehicles or any setup without Anderson connections.
2m Male Output
The standard output configuration. A 2-metre cable runs from the converter unit to the Starlink Mini power input port. Suits most installations where the converter sits within reach of the dish connection point.
30cm Female Output

A short female connector that allows the existing Starlink Mini cable to plug directly into the converter. This is the tidier option for permanent installations where the Starlink power cable is already routed and you want it to terminate cleanly at the converter without an additional cable run. Particularly useful for van and canopy installs where cable management matters.
With Wireless Remote

The Mini range is available with an integrated wireless remote receiver and two key fob remotes. The receiver is built into the converter unit. Press the key fob from anywhere at camp and the Starlink dish powers on or off without touching the unit.
The remote-included Starlink Mini Anderson kit is available at $179. This is the most complete single-product solution for a Mini setup with remote capability.
Individual Mini units without remote are available from $119, with the option to add the standalone 12V wireless remote control switch separately at $59 if remote capability is wanted later.
The Starlink Gen 3 12V Kit Options
The Gen 3 range is available with Anderson or cigarette plug input. Output is a 2m male cable in both cases. The Gen 3 converter steps 12V up to 56V as required by the Gen 3 dish. Both input types are available with or without wireless remote control.
Anderson Plug Input - $129 without remote, $189 with remote
Connects via 50A Anderson plug. Includes a 2m DC output cable and inline fuse. The clean, permanent installation choice for Gen 3 setups with Anderson-based electrical systems. Choose the remote variant at checkout to add the integrated receiver module and two key fobs.
Cigarette Lighter Plug Input - $129 without remote, $189 with remote
Connects to a standard 12V cigarette socket. Includes a 2m DC output cable. The simple plug-and-play option for Gen 3 setups without Anderson connections. The remote variant is available at the same price step as the Anderson option.
Already Have a Gen 3 Unit Without Remote?
If you already own a standard Gen 3 power supply and want to add wireless switching, the standalone 12V wireless remote control switch at $59 installs inline in the circuit and delivers the same key fob on/off capability without replacing the existing unit.
What About Starlink Gen 2?
Starlink Gen 2 (also known as the rectangular dish or the original flat dish) has a different power connector and different operating voltage to both the Mini and Gen 3. Running Gen 2 from 12V is technically possible but more involved, typically requiring a custom cable or adapter to connect to the dish power input. If you have a Gen 2 dish and want to explore 12V options, contact us directly and we can advise on the best approach for your specific unit rather than pointing you at a product that may not connect cleanly.
What Is Included in Each Starlink 12V Kit?
Every Starlink 12V power supply includes the converter unit and the output cable in the specified length. Anderson versions include an Anderson plug on the input lead. Cigarette versions include the cigarette lighter plug on the input lead. Inline fuse protection is included. Remote versions additionally include the receiver module and two key fob remotes.
Nothing else is required for a standard installation beyond your existing 12V power source and the Starlink dish itself.
The Short Version
The right Starlink 12V kit depends on three things: your dish model, your input connection type and whether you want remote capability. Mini needs 30V output, Gen 3 needs 56V output. Anderson suits permanent battery system connections, cigarette suits vehicle sockets and portable setups. Add a remote if the unit will be mounted somewhere inconvenient to reach at camp.
All options are stocked and clearly described at Campalot. If you are still unsure which combination suits your setup, get in touch and we will confirm the right Starlink 12V kit before you order.
